If you have asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart disease or diabetes, you may have a higher risk of developing complications from viruses and infections. COPD includes conditions like chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Complications can include serious lung diseases such as pneumonia, ear infections, heart problems and blood infections. This brochure helps you to find out whether you should be vaccinated with the influenza and/or pneumococcal vaccines.

Many people are eligible for free influenza (flu) and pneumococcal vaccinations through government or health service programs. This may vary from state to state, so check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out if you qualify.
