International Primary Care Respiratory Group

3rd World Conference - Oslo, Norway

The International Primary Care Respiratory Group Third World Conference will be held in Oslo, Norway, on June 8 - 11, 2006. Australian health professionals wanting to stay in the loop but unable to pack their bags and head off to Norway this June can still get all the latest news from the conference, thanks to a new service that will be provided by the National Asthma Council Australia.

National Asthma Council Australia project manager, Kathy Hope, will represent Australia at the Conference to report on proceedings and prepare a special ‘highlights' review that will be emailed to interested parties soon after the event.

The IPCRG represents 23 national groups of primary care physicians worldwide and provides health professionals with access to information about respiratory medicine, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer and infectious lung diseases.

The 2006 conference theme is "Respiratory Disease in Primary Care - Quality of Care", and will cover all facets of respiratory health including asthma, allergy, chronic lung disease, tuberculosis, pneumonia, infectious diseases and cough.

"The Oslo conference follows on from the successful Second World Conference held in Melbourne in 2004, hosted by the National Asthma Council Australia," Kathy Hope said.

"We know there are many local practitioners who participated in the Melbourne event who would like to attend the follow-up sessions that will occur in Oslo, but, unfortunately, not everyone can take time away from their practice, so my job will be to cover the conference on their behalf."

"The Conference is for all primary care health professionals with an interest in respiratory health, and Australia will be well represented with a contingent of health professionals already registered to attend. Australian speakers include Assoc. Professor Ron Tomlins, immediate past-Chairman of the National Asthma Council Australia and Professor Justin Beilby, Department of General Practice, University of Adelaide," she said.

Registrations to attend the conference in Oslo are still open and can be made at: http://www.theipcrg.org/oslo2006 or to register for the National Asthma Council Australia's IPCRG Oslo Report, go to http://www.NationalAsthma.org.au or call 1 800 032 495.
