Diet and asthma
Consuming a well-balanced diet is recommended for all people with asthma. Your diet should include a variety of breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables, meats and meat alternatives, and dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt. This will ensure a range of nutrients such as protein, carbohydrate and fat, and vitamins and minerals, are provided for growth, development, maintenance, and overall health and well-being.
Dairy foods and asthma
Dairy foods have often been suggested as a common trigger for asthma, but there is little scientific evidence to support this myth. In fact, exciting new research suggests that dairy may help protect children against asthma. The scientific study in over 3000 pre-school children, found that those who consumed regular varieties of dairy products every day had a significantly lower rate of asthma symptoms. This supports the findings from earlier research, that children with the lowest intake of milk were two and a half times more likely to develop asthma than children who consumed more than three serves every day.
