2009-10 Asthma Media Awards Print E-mail
Online applications will soon be open for the National Asthma Council Australia's 2009-10 Asthma Media Awards.

The Awards, which were originally established by the National Asthma Council Australia in 1998, celebrate the important role the media play in asthma education in Australia, acknowledging and rewarding achievement and excellence.

Eligibility:

The 2009/10 Asthma Media Awards are open to any professional Australian journalist who has written or produced an asthma-related story that has been published or aired during the 2009/10 financial year (July 1 2009 to June 30, 2010, inclusive).

Award Categories:

The judging categories for the Award are:

1. Health professional media (print; television; radio or online)
2. Consumer television
3. Consumer print
4. Consumer radio
5. Consumer online
6. Consumer regional media (print, television, radio or online).

The winning entries in each category will then be judged to determine an overall National Asthma Council Australia 2009/10 Asthma Media Awards winner.

Judging Criteria:

The judging panel will be looking for stories that:

  • Provide a balanced and accurate report of asthma issues, including triggers.
  • Demystify the complexities of asthma including treatment, medications and devices.
  • Portray a realistic picture of what it is like to live with asthma.
  • Encourage medical professionals to continually update their knowledge and practice of asthma management.

Eligible entries publication / broadcast period:

July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010

March 2010

Closing date

5pm, Friday July 9, 2010

Winners announced

Thursday August 19, 2010

How to Enter:

All entries and supporting evidence (ie: a copy of the published or broadcast story) must be logged electronically via the National Asthma Council Australia website: http://www.nationalasthma.com.au/

The online entry form will be available from March 2010.

Winner Recognition:

Category winners will each receive a commemorative certificate and a minor prize of $500 towards purchase of equipment to aid their career.

The major prize winner will also receive $2,000 towards attendance at a respiratory conference of his/her choice.

Winners will be announced at the National Asthma Council Australia's 21st anniversary celebration in Melbourne on the evening of Thursday August 2010.

Funding:

The National Asthma Council Australia 2009/10 Asthma Media Awards are funded solely by the National Asthma Council Australia.
