Webcasts

The National Asthma Council uses a variety of media to provide educational resources for Health Professionals including webcasts.

A webcast is similar in intent to a broadcast television program but designed for Internet transmission. It allows the health professionals to connect to the webcast from the computer of their choice in the most convenient location to receive the program.

Combination products for asthma are important for the management of people with moderate to severe asthma. The webcast will include the latest evidence-based answers to crucial questions such as:

What are the clinical indications for prescribing combination therapy? What is the correct dose to start your patient on? How often should you review the dose? How can you use combination therapy to improve medication adherence and quality of life?

    Associate Dean (Rural and Community School), and Head, Academic Unit of Rural Health, Medical School, The Australian National University, Canberra, Member of NAC General Practitioners’ Asthma Group.
  • Assoc. Prof. Philip Bardin
    Director of Respiratory Research at Monash Medical Centre, Monash University VIC.
  • Assoc. Prof. Dominic Fitzgerald
    Paediatric respiratory and sleep physician, Deputy Head of the Division of Academic and General Medicine, the Children’s Hospital Westmead, Sydney.
  • Ms Luisa Hogan
    Community Pharmacist and Home Medicines Review Consultant, Victoria.

The presenters answered viewers questions about combination therapy immediately after the webcast. Points were available for viewing the webcast until January 26, 2006. The webcast continues to be available without CPD points.

The panellists discussed daily practice issues such as:

  • Preventer therapy for mild persistent asthma
  • When it doesn't seem right - review and reconsider
  • How it is done in general practice - case study

The panellists answered viewers questions about paediatric asthma live, during and immediately after the webcast.
