How to use this Document

• The first section of the document restates the asthma goals. For more detail, see the National Asthma Strategy, Goals and Targets, National Asthma Campaign, 1994. It gives a brief overview of principal strategies, followed by more detailed strategies.

The current situation and performance indicators are included in table form, followed by suggestions on monitoring the strategies. In some cases, overambitious targets have been modified.

The Vancouver system of referencing has been used throughout and endnotes can be found at the end of each chapter.

• The second section identifies specific groups as both the targets and facilitators of the strategies. This enables readers, in particular those working in the asthma field, to gain a clear understanding of their potential role and responsibilities in implementing these strategies.
