New asthma info in time for allergy season
19 October 2011First Aid for Asthma Chart Launched on New Website
The National Asthma Council Australia is encouraging Australians to brush up on their asthma and allergy know-how as the country gets set for what is predicted to be a bumper spring and summer allergy season.
“With the drought finally breaking we are experiencing one of the biggest grass growing seasons for a decade and anticipate a long hot pollen laden spring and summer,” warned National Asthma Council Australia CEO, Kristine Whorlow.
“If you have asthma or allergies, or care for someone who does, it’s important to recognise the triggers and know what to do if symptoms worsen.”
To ensure all Australians have access to up to date asthma management advice, the National Asthma Council Australia has just launched a revamped website: www.NationalAsthma.org.au
The site is cram-packed with practical information and houses the brand new First Aid for Asthma chart, which is easily accessible via the red ‘Emergency’ tab on the home page.
The printable First Aid for Asthma chart provides a clear four step process for handling an asthma attack, including treatment information as well as practical advice on how to help someone in physical distress use their asthma inhaler correctly and when to call an ambulance.
“Having an asthma attack or even witnessing someone having an attack is pretty scary. The best way to prevent panic and ensure a safe outcome is to familiarise yourself with the first aid steps well in advance.
“This chart has been designed as a ready reference for anyone likely to come into contact with someone having an asthma attack. Stick it on the fridge, in the company tea room or on the noticeboard in your community club house as added insurance, just in case,” Kristine Whorlow advised.
The newly designed website provides reliable, useful information about asthma for people with asthma and their families, as well as a wide range of education and resources for health professionals.
