About the National Asthma and Allergy Network

The National Asthma and Allergy Network is a community of people who have asthma or who live with or care for someone with asthma, and who want to help us improve our resources and services.

Helping health professionals understand what it is really like to have asthma – the worries and concerns, as well as the tips and strategies for better management – is important, especially when planning changes to health services or our resources.

Community involvement helps improve the understanding and effectiveness of asthma care in Australia for both the community and health professionals. We consult the Network at various stages of projects for input and feedback to ensure the patient perspective is included.

The National Asthma Council Australia (NAC) educates and supports GPs, nurses and pharmacists to provide best-practice care to people with asthma and their carers and families. For more information on the NAC, click here.

What does being a member of the Network involve?

By joining the Network you are giving us permission to email you when community opportunities are available in our projects. There’s no obligation to participate in any of the opportunities. You can get involved in as many or as few as you want.

Opportunities will vary depending on the project we're working on. Many will be online but some will be in person. Some will let you improve asthma care in your local area, while others might affect the asthma community in your state or across Australia.

Some examples of opportunities include:

  • Filling out a survey about a new poster, booklet or fact sheet
  • Taking part in a focus group for a research project
  • Sharing your story to give the community perspective to a report or training resource
