Our Initiatives
Asthma Management Handbook
The Asthma Management Handbook 2006, the Australian national asthma treatment guidelines, is our flagship publication and forms the foundation of all our educational activities and resources.
First published in 1989 and now in its sixth edition, the Handbook continues to set the standard for best-practice asthma management in Australia. It is written primarily for general practice and community pharmacy, emphasising a team approach to asthma care.
Work is underway on the seventh edition.

Sensitive Choice
The Sensitive Choice program aims to help Australians with asthma and allergies make better lifestyle choices.
Developed in response to consumer demand, the Sensitive Choice program encourages manufacturers to be asthma and allergy aware. Our program recognises companies who develop products that may be better choices for people with asthma or allergies.

International Outreach
We have a well-established international reputation and, as asthma prevalence increases, countries in Asia and the Pacific have looked to us for advice on strategic planning, development of treatment guidelines, health professional education, consumer involvement, and the development of organisations based on the NAC model.

Asthma Media Awards
Recognising the important role the media play in asthma education, we created the NAC Media Awards in 1998 to acknowledge and reward excellence in asthma journalism and to promote and encourage responsible reporting of issues relating to asthma treatment, management and education.

Research Awards
We fund annual awards to encourage research into asthma.
The awards are offered via our stakeholder bodies: the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, and Asthma Australia. Each organisation gives their award to the best asthma-related presentation at their respective annual/biennial conference.
