Triple therapy for asthma in primary care

19 Feb 2026

A new information sheet, Triple therapy for asthma in primary care, has been released to provide concise information for primary care health professionals, based on the National Asthma Council’s updated Australian Asthma Handbook.

Triple therapy refers to maintenance treatment with an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), a long-acting beta2 agonist (LABA), and long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA). Triple therapy is one of two options for people with severe asthma, pending specialist referral. The new information sheet outlines recommendations, clinical benefits and helpful practice points.

This information was developed independently by the National Asthma Council Australia with support from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK Australia).
