The Asthma and COPD Medications Chart is an essential guide to the main types of asthma and COPD medications available in Australia, updated September 2025.
The chart was updated to coincide with the launch of the National Asthma Council's 2025 Australian Asthma Handbook - the national guidelines for health professionals. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are now indicated for all adults and adolescents with asthma.
The revised guidelines recommend anti-inflammatory reliever (AIR) only therapy and maintenance-and-reliever therapy (MART) for adults and adolescents (aged over 12).
The chart has been updated with AIR and MART symbols to help health professionals to easily identify these medications.
It can be downloaded and printed as a PDF and health professionals can order free print copies (A2 size) by emailing [email protected].
The chart was developed independently by the National Asthma Council Australia, with support from AstraZeneca Australia, Chiesi Australia, GSK Australia and Orion Pharma.
Every patient prescribed a pMDI should know how to use a spacer and use it when needed or as directed. Spacers should be selected individually to fit the pMDI.
