Introducing the NAC's new acute asthma working groups

14 Oct 2026

On International Emergency Nurses Day, National Asthma Council Australia acknowledges and thanks emergency nurses for their essential contribution to patient care.

Emergency nurses play a critical role in the assessment and management of acute asthma presentations, providing timely care to people experiencing potentially life-threatening symptoms.

We’re proud to have leading emergency medical experts on our newly formed Adult Acute Asthma Working Group and Paediatric Acute Asthma Working Group, including A/Prof Tamsin Jones, an emergency care nurse, researcher and clinical educator with over 20 years of experience.

A/Prof Tamsin Jones has recently commenced as Associate Professor of Emergency Nursing with Monash University and The Alfred Care Group and is the former Director of Education, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Monash University. Her research and clinical work focus on emergency care delivery, emergency nursing practice standards, healthcare workforce preparation, and managing resource strain within acute healthcare settings.

Our new National Asthma Council multidisciplinary acute asthma working groups also include experienced emergency physicians, pharmacists, general practitioners, and respiratory physicians, working together to strengthen the consistency and quality of acute emergency asthma care across Australia.
